SUPPY CHAIN TRANSFORMATION
Client:
Federal Healthcare Agency’s Procurement & Logistics Office
Context / Challenge: COVID-19 created unprecedented disruptions in healthcare supply chains, significantly challenging a Federal Healthcare Agency's readiness programs. The pandemic's impact, particularly on the availability of PPE and medical supplies, necessitated swift action from the agency. Aligning immediate response efforts with the strategic vision of the Regional Readiness Centers (RRC) program proved complex, especially amid the transition to a new supply chain model.
Approach: In collaboration with the agency’s Procurement & Logistics Office, I led a team to develop a comprehensive strategy for transitioning their supply chain model from Just-in-Time to Just-in-Case. We conducted both quantitative and qualitative research to understand the organization’s needs. This included a detailed analysis of 173 facilities and their PPE requirements under various COVID-19 scenarios. We worked closely with stakeholders and subject matter experts (SMEs) to design solutions that addressed the utilization of warehouses, inventories, and staffing to ensure successful implementation.
Impact: This collaboration strengthened the agency’s supply chain resilience and updated its resiliency plan. The enhanced approach will ensured timely delivery of supplies during crises and advanced long-term modernization goals. Ultimately this is an ongoing project, but this strategy will safeguarded healthcare for veterans and positioned the agency to better handle future challenges.
